Dyeing Leather with Plants - an Experiment

Vegetable-tanned leather is characterized by a light, brownish color that varies depending on the tanning mixture used. The different plant extracts give the leather different properties, including different color nuances. Over time, the leather darkens and develops a beautiful patina that tells the story of the product.

In addition to undyed leather, we also sell dyed leather. Only REACH-certified water-based dyes are used for dyeing. Vegetable dyes are not yet widely used in the leather industry for various reasons. However, we are currently testing bluewood extract, which comes from a reforestation project in Mexico. Dyeing with bluewood produces beautiful purple shades. We are very excited about the results and will of course be happy to share them with you!
