Trust instead of seals – our stance on certificates

Does sustainability need a certificate?
We get asked this question a lot. Many people think that you're only truly sustainable if you have a seal of approval. But we see things a bit differently and would say: Not necessarily.

Sustainability starts with transparency

We believe that true sustainability needs one thing above all: transparency. That's why we openly share every single step of our production process – from the origin of the raw materials to processing and transport. We know all our partners personally, visit the farms where the animals live, and maintain close contact with our tanneries.

Many common certificates in the leather industry primarily test the final product – for example, for harmful substances. But what do they say about the working conditions in the tannery? About animal welfare, the origin of the animals, the energy supply, the handling of water, waste or transport routes? Usually: nothing. But these are exactly the points that are decisive for us.

Not every label tells the whole truth

Certifications can be a helpful tool, but they aren't the only way to show you're responsible. They often cost a lot of money and aren't always affordable for small businesses. This means that sometimes the decision comes down to budget, not commitment. And we think that's a problem.

So, the question we ask ourselves is: Who do you trust? An anonymous testing center on paper – or a company that is radically transparent about its work?

Farming without a label – but with attitude

We also pay close attention to our raw materials. Many of the farms we work with consciously choose not to have an organic label – not because they do less, but often because they do more. Their animal husbandry, pasture management, and feeding practices often exceed common standards. But without the official stamp. That's also why we rely on our own transparent criteria – and not on labels that vary from country to country.

Thinking about the future means: Questioning things

For us, sustainable leather means creating it in harmony with people, animals and nature – responsibly and traceably. You don't necessarily need a certificate for that. Because not everything that is sustainable carries a seal.
We focus on real transparency instead of symbolism, on insight instead of promises – and invite you to get to know us and our work.

Get in touch – we're an open book.
We'll show you where our leather comes from, how it's processed, and what we stand for. Because trust comes from honest insights, not just labels.
