About Cows Bred for Their Leather

There's a widespread misconception that animals are bred and killed solely for the production of leather - an idea that we find inaccurate and puzzling. In reality, farmers often receive no compensation for their animals' skins, even when the highest welfare standards are met.

Shockingly, around 50% of the world's animal skins are thrown away with other abattoir waste - a huge waste. Meanwhile, demand for artificial leather is growing, but even 'next generation' materials such as apple or cactus 'leather' rely heavily on petroleum-based components.

Through our efforts, we aim not only to empower responsible artisans, designers and companies to use local, sustainable leather, but also to strengthen the local leather industry. We also aim to promote awareness and education about the links between agriculture, food and fashion, encouraging more conscientious consumer choices.
